On my system a 7z-file opens with the same program as a rar-file, namely WinRar, which I provided a link for in this same thread. The 7z format however compresses even more. Most archives (I tested more) did worse than the 22 MB rar-format. It can extract RAR-files, but it can't make them. It supports the 7z-format which can compress even more. It has an old-school interface and it seems to predate Windows 95, but it's a modern program and can handle all the interesting archives. Later the open source 7zip utility was added. Most people that want smaller archives use the rar-format, as it compresses much better. On the Windows platform there's a decent tool that can handle more archives. It hasn't been that for more than 20 years. WinZip used to be a decent tool for handling archives. This doesn't have anything to do with the zip archive. I encounter a lot of infected computers with the Winzip utility. The best known format for archives is zip. The 7-zip utility can handle rar-files just fine and so does the brand new OS on which the webserver is running.Īt least learn the difference between a format and a utility that can handle them. There is no significant advantage to be gained. All lossless file compressions were done in the 70's and 80's. Just because you are 10 years old doesn't mean that anything older is obsolete. There's nothing unsafe about the rar-format. Safer, better compression formats to choose from!

rar 'utilities' are chock full of spyware. I got sent to so many dodgy popup clickbait webpages.
#Windows 95 sound pack rar install
Searching for a rar utility to download and install so I could open ONE file, Last time I tried, the download links were both broken. Who uses rar compression these days? Someone still computing on a Commodore?

The official Amber pack can't be used in 2.1 and 2.2 as most sounds don't follow the modern OpenTX guidelines anymore The one that almost everyone is using with a modern OpenTX comes from me as it does not need any work. There's only 1 "official pack" and that's the one from TheKM and it was last updated in 2014. It contains a complete set and is therefore better than the one offered from the OpenTX site. Less than a week ago I added a "sensor not ready" sound.Ī year ago I decided to publish an updated 2.1 set that can be used as a drop-in replacement. OpenTX university chose to make it available through a link to a website I own. I proposed to just add the complete pack to the OpenTX distro, but they chose to make it available as a downloadable zip. The only thing that was needed was a reorganization of the SYSTEM folder, because OpenTX changed. I did that pack when 2.1 was not released yet and the original Amber pack was a regular download.
